On a typical workout day…

CLOTHES. I always wear capri leggings and a sleeveless workout top. They’re great for flexibility moves and inversions, so you don’t accidentally flash someone while you’re upside down! I find that loose workout clothing can actually be more immodest depending on what you’re doing! A nice snug but not too tight outfit is best. Too constrictive is uncomfortable and will limit your range of motion.

I usually opt for darker tones for bottoms to minimize my bottom curves, but today I opted for something brave and bright for a change. It’s summertime after all!

I also find that capri leggings as opposed to full length leggings also minimize the look of bulkiness on the legs. If you’re heavier on the bottom or have short legs, you can either go for dark colors to draw away attention from that area or wear below the knee capris to hide where your knees end. Capris also hug the hips, butt, thighs, and everything else… so there’s also the option of wider leg capris if you want to be a bit more covert!

I sweat SO MUCH that I have to wear clothing with material that’s breathable, so I can’t wear 100% cotton or anything heavy. Invest in a good workout top (and bra) and bottom!

JEWELRY. I try not to wear any jewelry when working out especially when doing yoga. If I do, I make sure it’s not metal. I believe that when practicing any kind of meditative exercise, metal on your body disrupts the flow of energy that’s needed for healing. That means no underwire for my sports bras.

SHOES. When I don’t do yoga, I like wearing comfortable sneakers. I don’t do a lot of cardio at all but instead do a lot of interval training and isometric exercises like yoga and Pilates, so there’s really no need for me to wear typical running sneakers when I go to the gym. These neutral sneakers with a tiny wedge in them are from City Pisces. They’re sort of beige too, so they help elongate the look of the legs! I like that these sneakers are only $30!

Speaking of, City Pisces will be having a giveaway for SHOES, SHOES, SHOES hosted here on ALAMODEST this week! Watch out for it!

Shabby Apple Tartans Tweeds

Ceud mìle fàilte! That means one hundred thousand welcomes in Gaelic/Scottish. Shabby Apple just introduced its new Fall 2013 collection called Tartans and Tweeds. I say, I’m really loving this new collection. I have above some of my most favorite. I like the above outfits the most, because they’d look good alone even without elaborating with accessories and hair, don’t you think? Some dresses need something to compliment it with, but you don’t have to with these. The faux fur, the tweed, the tartan are more than enough to wow you! Check out some more of Shabby Apple’s vintage clothing.

Did you know that the word tartan just means plaid in North America, but in Scottland, plaid means a piece of tartan cloth hung over the shoulder or just a plain bed sheet?  I really like learning about differences in culture, time, and culture through time. Tweed is a material that used to be worn only by the upper class, and now we can enjoy it no matter what stature. Oh, bless equality!

shoelifts

Louis Vuitton sneakers above are for sale

While I was looking for comfy gel inserts a while back, I landed on these things called shoe lifts. They’re inserts with heels! Having these can transform your shoes into wedges, which is a really neat thought. Here are the different kinds you’ll see being sold and the type of shoe they’re best for.

The goal of shoe lifts are to add height and create a more slender look to your legs while keeping the heel a secret. You can only really wear them with flat shoes—sneakers, ballet flats, etc. Every flat shoe is different though, so it’s not a guarantee that shoe lifts will fit just any flat shoe. You’ll have to do some trial and error.

I’m giving the following kinds of shoe lifts their own names, but you may see them named as something else elsewhere. You’ll just have to remember what they look like. They can come in different colors, materials, and styles. Although shoe lifts come in one size, you need to keep in mind that the pairs are different for men and women.

These are the most common kinds:

1) Heel Only Stackable

shoeinserts2

These shoe lifts go from your heel to about a couple of inches into the center of your sole (Twilight Zone music cue). You should get these heel-only inserts with three stacks at most. There might be pairs out there with more, but you’ll have to be really lucky to manage stuffing them in your tennis shoes.

2) Whole Foot Stackable / Non-Stackable

shoeinserts3

These inserts look more like your regular pair of shoe inserts, because they cover your whole sole. They are different from your regular inserts, because they have detachable heels. You can cut the tips to fit your feet.

3) Sock Inserts – Heel Only,  Stackable / Non-Stackable

shoelifts4

These guys come with somewhat rounder and smoother surfaces, so that they can be discreet inside your socks while being worn as is without your shoes on. I’ve worn these at house parties that required guests to remove their shoes with no problem. They don’t make a noise when you walk around. You can also wear these inside your shoes, because I personally think they are the most comfortable kind. The red pair I have above are more like sock inserts, because they are smoother and not too high. The more common sock insole looks like this.
